The most anticipated video games of 2020
The world of video games faces another year full of new exciting releases. Some of the most anticipated games are expected to be released within the next few months and gamers are all set to welcome the new arrivals.
We can expect the next few months to be filled with great adventures, frantic shooters, immersive narratives and new approaches that will shake the pillars of the video game industry.
Dragon Ball: Kakarot reached the markets on January 17 and the reviews are still quite positive, but they all point to the same thing: it is entertaining and quite visually appealing, but it does not live up to its hype.
The latest part of the well-known Assassin's Creed saga, AC: Odyssey, took us to an Ancient Greece where we could face men and gods alike. Gods & Monsters promises a much more relaxed cartoon style game with combat situations, exploration and puzzle solving in a mythological Greece in which the gods have been defeated by the Titan Typhoon.
It will be released at the end of February and it is already being compared to legendary games such as The Legend of Zelda.
The latest part may be the best in the series. It returns with the latest graphics, an agile and completely new combat system and the same story that hooked us so long ago. Its launch has been moved to April 10.
In 2013, The Last of Us caught the attention of every gamer in the world and it became a true milestone. Seven years later, Ellie's story continues in a second part that promises not to disappoint anyone. It will arrive on PlayStation on May 29.
When we talk about a video game setting, the samurai world is usually a safe bet. Through Ghost of Tsushima, gamers will put themselves in the shoes of the Ghost, a fallen warrior who rises again to face the Mongols and stop their plans to invade Japan while culminating his revenge. Its launch is expected for summer 2020.
With an unprecedented story and a style that seems to approach the successful Marvel's Spiderman, this video game will allow us to manage different members of the group. It will take place in an open world in which you fight using your skills, while cooperative mode will be very important. Square Enix announced that Marvel's Avengers would take longer than expected to reach the stores. Release date is set for September 4.
Since CD Projekt RED hit the bullseye with ‘The Witcher’ games, everything they release automatically becomes a focus of attention and hype. Cyberpunk 2077 will be a first-person shooter in an open world. Due to the simple fact that it has Keanu Reeves as a character, it will be very popular among gamers.
In 2005, after completing the prequel trilogy, LEGO decided to launch a video game based on the stories and characters of Star Wars.
Five years later they are set to release their brand new LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, that will bring together the nine movies. It looks as a rehash of the previous games, adding the last two parts.
Taking advantage of the launch of the Nintendo Switch console, the company will release the second part of The Legend of Zelda. No release date has been announced yet by the Japanese company.
FromSoftware, who won a well-deserved award for Best Video Game of 2019 for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will launch in June their next video game named Elden Ring. Very little is known about it, but it seems that we will return to a medieval era and will maintain the dark tone and difficulty. For the game’s scenario, FromSoftware collaborated with the Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin.
Ubisoft prepares the third part of their Watch Dogs series with features very similar to those we already know but a very novel element in its gameplay. Instead of following a single main character we can handle anyone we meet to join the resistance. Each of them have their own stories and skills and once they die, they are dead forever.
The aforementioned approach is quite interesting, but we will still have to wait a while to see how it works, since the release date has yet to be confirmed.
After trying their luck with ‘Story Mode’, Minecraft continues to grow with this new experience that bets on a role-playing style of dungeon exploration. Retaining the aesthetic block and pixel art that launched them to stardom, Minecraft: Dungeons tries its luck with a Diablo style and a local or online cooperative in the purest Dungeons & Dragons style. Release date hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Biomutant has been described as an open-world role-playing game. Post-apocalyptic elements, steampunk science fiction and anthropomorphic animals star in a story of reconstruction or destruction of the world. It seems that personalisation and the decision system will be two of the centrepieces of this game which will arrive sometime in 2020.
In the new part, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, SEGA put aside our beloved Kazuma Kiryu and move to Yokohama to follow in the footsteps of Ichiban Kasuga and his entry into the Japanese mafia. The latest part of the saga will enhance the role elements and present a turn-based combat system. While in Japan it went on sale on January 16, its release date in western countries is unknown for the moment being.
It is a direct sequel of the best action game in the 2016 Game Awards. Doom Eternal guarantees a world bigger than the previous one and an equally frantic and destructive experience. We will put ourselves in the shoes of the demon DOOM Slayer, to face infinite hordes of monstrous creatures, in a game that stands out for its difficulty and its characteristic visual section.
